How Flying Stars affect your business / workplace?
Ever wonder why Feng Shui is commonly applied to your home? The key reason is that we spend most of our time at home. Be it play, rest, or even work. However, Feng Shui is not just confined to one’s residence. Instead, Feng Shui is ever present in all environments, and its strength increases if you are in that environment for extended periods.
Entrepreneurs will spend a considerable amount of investment and time in their place of business, be it a retail front, office or a factory. Hence, having a place of business with ideal Feng Shui is crucial. As business owners, one would hope for higher footfall and sales, better finance and operations in the office, or a smooth production line with an optimal inventory. These are some of the Feng Shui objectives that might differ slightly from those of a residential Feng Shui.
For the majority who are not (yet) business owners, you may be surprised to learn that Feng Shui principles still apply at your workplace, even if you are hot-desking! The competitive and stressful work requirements have resulted in longer working hours, and it is not surprising that some spend more time in the office than at home. In this article, we will focus more on business and office Feng Shui. So, business owners and office dwellers, do read on!
Business Feng Shui (For Business Owners)
The similarity between business and residential Feng Shui is that there are many different methodologies and schools of thought. However, the objective of business Feng Shui is not exactly the same as that of a home. Let’s put things in perspective: Retail shop owners would want a very high footfall and traffic, hoping that many customers would patronize the shop. This cannot be true for a residence.
While there are many methods for Business Feng Shui, it is almost certain that no Feng Shui practitioner will use just one for a Feng Shui Consultation. At Moon FengShui, we also adopt a combination of different strategies. One of the most commonly adopted is the flying star method. There are some interpretation differences for the various stars, so let’s dive deeper to understand more about the difference between Flying Star for home Feng Shui and Flying Star for business Feng Shui.
The following is a chart of 2025 Flying Stars.

Notice that certain flying stars are not entirely appropriate for a business environment. A business would not be plagued with illness nor engage in romantic relationships per se. For clarity’s sake and to shed some light on how the flying stars concept can be used for a business, we provided a detailed illustration of each flying star and its meaning. We included the ideal departments or functions for each sector, but it is almost impossible for all the departments to play musical chairs yearly. Hence, in our example, we used the 2025 Flying Stars chart simply for illustration. For practicality, it makes more sense to adopt a Period 9 Flying Star Chart instead, considering that it is stronger and lasts much longer. You may refer to this article for more information about the difference between a yearly Flying Stars Chart and a Period 9 Flying Stars Chart.

Depending on the industry and key functions of the firm, the main gate of each office will have a different optimal direction. Nevertheless, this is only one of the many methods a Feng Shui Consultant will use for a business Feng Shui Audit. Hence, a consultation or arrangement solely based on the Flying Stars method will lack depth and ignore many more Feng Shui Principles. We have selected this for discussion because it is easy to understand and coincides with the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.
Office Feng Shui (For hardworking employees)
Everyone will be very curious about this (Bosses, look elsewhere, please!). How do we go about doing this? For those who practice hot-desking or coworking space, congratulations! You will likely have a better chance of selecting a “good” spot. Depending on your industry and function, the general rule of thumb is to face the most favourable direction for you. For those with a fixed cubicle/fixed desk, do not worry; you will have a chance to improve your Feng Shui, too. The following is a simple 4-step approach that we suggest to our existing clients who are office dwellers:

Establish your sitting and facing position.
Determine if the sitting and facing position is a positive or negative one.
If both are positive, Congratulations! You may keep it that way, or if you are greedy, you can activate one or both.
If there are negative directions, we will recommend a remedy.
Usually, these activations use very small, office-accepted ornaments such as a baby crystal geode, a Pop-Mart zodiac figurine, a globe model, or a mini coin box for your spare change during lunch break.
Of course, the flying star concept is sometimes too “superficial” as it does not consider many other principles. We would highly advise you to consult a professional Feng Shui Consultant. With other key information, such as your Kua Number, your career, and your Bazi, the Feng Shui Consultant can then make a more informed recommendation for you. (Of course, we do have such service requests from time to time, and we charge a small fee.)
Conclusion
It is certainly interesting to learn some of the fundamentals of the flying star and how they can be applied to your workplace. However, this is one of the many principles a Feng Shui Practitioner will use.
A good example where reliance on a single method could be erroneous is:
East direction is a good facing for Flying Star 2025.
If your Kua number is 7 (belong to a West Group in accordance with the Eight Mansion Formula), and East is your most inauspicious direction. Notice the conflicting outcome under both methods? That explains why facing East might not bring you good fortune.
