Feng Shui to improve career
Need a Nobleman's support?

Feng Shui and Career

In today’s fast-paced and competitive world, a successful career is not just a dream — it is a necessity. For many, especially breadwinners in the family, the stability and growth of their career is vital. A career not only supports one's livelihood but also provides security for the family, education for children, and a sense of purpose. Whether you are an executive climbing the corporate ladder, a business owner navigating market challenges, or a civil servant striving for excellence, a strong career foundation is essential.

But in a city like Singapore — known for its high cost of living and emphasis on financial success — having an edge in your dream career can make a profound difference. This is where Feng Shui comes into play. More than just an ancient Chinese belief, Feng Shui is a practical art and science that aligns your living and working spaces with natural energy (Qi) to support your goals — including career advancement. Feng Shui and Career Success in Ancient Times Feng Shui, meaning “Wind and Water,” has its roots in ancient China, where emperors, farmers, generals, and merchants used it to influence their fortunes. When practiced correctly, Feng Shui can channel beneficial energies that support prosperity, good health, harmonious relationships, and indeed, a successful career.

  1. Farmers and Bountiful Harvests In agrarian times, farmers relied on Feng Shui to determine the best location for their fields and homes. Land fertility, mountain support, and water flow were all considered. A field placed in a valley with rich soil and backed by a mountain (symbolizing support) would be more likely to yield abundant harvests. This was not superstition — it was an early understanding of land, weather patterns, and environmental influence.

  2. Merchants and Business Prosperity Chinese businessmen historically consulted Feng Shui masters before opening shops or expanding trade routes. A prosperous business location — such as one that received ample sunlight, had a direct yet non-aggressive flow of energy (Qi), and was protected from harsh winds — would draw more customers and ensure smoother operations. The placement of the cashier, the entrance, and even the direction of the shop played a role.

  3. Officials and Generals – Meeting Noblemen In dynastic times, officials and military generals sought the guidance of Feng Shui masters to ensure career advancement and the emperor’s favor. The selection of auspicious residences and even burial plots for ancestors (Yin Feng Shui) were believed to influence their fortune. If a general’s home was situated with strong ‘dragon energy’ and supported by protective landforms, it was said to elevate his destiny and gain recognition in court.

While the above three examples may seem odd in today’s context, they highly resemble some of the careers we have in modern-day Singapore. Employees, Business Owners, and civil servants. No matter what career possibilities or occupation we are in, an honest and down-to-earth career should always be respected, and Feng Shui is here to give us a slight boost.

Employee vs Business Owner: A Feng Shui Perspective

Employees and Employers are both similar yet distinctly different in many instances. While that is true at face value, Feng Shui principles are applied differently depending on the nature of your career.

For Employees

Employees depend heavily on recognition and, to a certain extent, workplace relationships or perhaps noblemen. Most professional lives begin with a job interview, and that could be the first instance of building meaningful connections with people who matter - interviewers. The focal point is more hierarchical, where the person you report to is more likely to determine your returns.

Recognition, career promotion, salary rise, or even fringe benefits may be some of the most favorable outcomes that most employees are looking for. Most of us would have been caught in a situation where someone less deserving gets the better cut, surprisingly good relationship between your superior and your fellow colleague or simply opportunities just seem to be avoiding you mysteriously.

Luck, you might say. Yes, and luck is what Feng Shui brings about. To give one an additional boost in luck, whether it is recognition, rapport, or career opportunity, Feng Shui seeks to enhance Earth’s luck (refer to the cosmic trinity). Of course, there may be other aspects that influence a career, and that could be choosing the right path, doing something that suits your Bazi Birth Chart, or perhaps you are not at the right phase in life (10-year luck pillar or 流年运势 going against you).

For Business Owners

Business owners require a different energy dynamic. Their success is tied to cash flow, business decisions, networking, and client attraction. Ultimately, business growth. Building deep connections and encountering helpful people or business partners will grow one's business. In Feng Shui, special attention is given to the premises of a business, especially the position of the business owner. Whether it is about office Feng Shui or the retail chains’ Feng Shui, business premises are essential for business owners. The layout of the office space, shop, or restaurant plays a significant role in how energy flows and whether it invites opportunities or obstacles.

The same theory of luck and cosmic trinity applies. Have you ever been to a hawker establishment where you noticed two stores with drastically different crowds? Well, many factors are at play, but Feng Shui, or perhaps the larger Chinese Metaphysics, might be at play. With complex energy types at play in a commercial setting, having a positive energy flow or an auspicious energy sector is crucial for businesses.

How Residential Feng Shui Can Help Your Career

Your home is more than just a place to sleep — it’s where you recharge, think, make decisions, and cultivate ambition. The environment in which one spends most of their time is their home. Improving the energies of living space can significantly improve one’s health, wealth, relationships, and, of course, career luck. As mentioned in many of our articles, it is unfortunate that not all houses are built equally; some houses are suited for you while others are not. There are no definite bad houses or good houses (Imagine the whole stack from level 2 to level 50 being inauspicious); it is about being compatible. Likewise, generic recommendations such as simple fengshui touches (a water feature or feng shui items) in the North direction or the South-East corner in your career corner may work well on a broad basis. Still, such Feng Shui tips may not apply to every individual.

Likewise, some apartments are blessed with ample health luck sectors but may be lacking in other areas. Based on our experience, most houses have both merits and flaws. Apartments that are outright awful or exceptionally good are uncommon.

A detailed Residential Feng Shui consultation is likely to reveal an auspicious sector for your career (either as an employee or an employer). Recognizing this is a significant step to activate your career luck. Consider activating this sector with items that promote career growth, and we believe you will notice a noticeable difference. (Please, if you are looking to activate that sector and start snoozing at your workplace, then maybe Feng Shui is not for you altogether).

Some consultations will also provide analysis on your work desk (if you have one) to align and position it for better career luck. This could involve altering its position and orientation or possibly using certain symbolic ornaments to activate the spot. Well, not all Feng Shui ornaments equate to Pixiu (貔貅), Crystal balls, or BaGua Mirror. So, ditch the misconception that a Feng Shui consultation will turn your place into a Feng Shui Museum. Although in some cases, we have to admit that traditional artifacts may be a better option, most of the time, such ornaments can be as simple as placing a table lamp, a coin box, or even a potted green plant.

Speak to your preferred Master, and we believe whether it is us or someone else, the most important consideration is that the client should feel comfortable.

How Workplace or Commercial Feng Shui Can Help

This is the interesting part. Workplace or Commercial Feng Shui comes into play when you:

a) Is a business owner and has a Business premises. A business owner with a home office is the big winner, as a residential Feng Shui consultation would likely suffice in most cases.

b) Is an employee who wishes to implement Feng Shui at the workplace (Work Desk, Cubicle, Dedicated Room).

For business owners, the nature of your business and its premises will have a significant impact on the objective of Feng Shui. A warehouse’s emphasis is very much different from that of an office. A manufacturing plant's focus will be vastly different from that of a retail shop. Similarly, the layout and setup will be different (Who has a cash register in a manufacturing plant and one is unlikely to store tons of inventory in an office). Each consultation will be significantly different to ensure relevance.

For employees who wish to incorporate Feng Shui into their workplace, rest assured that it is still definitely possible. This is so even if you have little to no autonomy to where you sit (fixed desk). Of course, should you practice hot desking and have a cubicle set up or an entire room for yourself, then there will be more flexibility to incorporate Feng Shui principles. The quick next question will be how?

Office space - Feng Shui for your desk

Well, an office desk itself (fixed desk) is regarded as “Your” career space. Depending on the shape of your desk, you may have the option to tilt (albeit at a limited angle). So, assuming you're in luck and sitting at an L-shaped desk, a consultation can help you at least optimize the facing. Well, we know that this is not always applicable, so for those who are unable to, we will implement office desk Feng Shui. Understanding your space, the optimal and auspicious area of your desk, is the best way to ensure Good Feng Shui. When considering where to place your in-tray, consider activating your wealth spot within the desk. Be mindful not to put your litter bin on the auspicious spot, and determining where your pedestal should be placed are all legitimate actions to improve the Feng Shui of your desk.

How Moon FengShui Consulting Can Help

At Moon Feng Shui Consulting, we specialize in aligning your personal and professional environments to support your aspirations. Feng Shui is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and neither does it change your life path overnight. While we seek to have a career luck upgrade through Feng Shui principles, there are other factors at play. Having a personal consultation allows you to better understand your career direction or sector and how to enhance your career prospects and suitability, thereby increasing the chances of a successful career life.

With experience in assisting clients from various professions and businesses, our team offers a highly personalized Feng Shui Consultation for all clients.

Here’s how we can help you:

Residential Feng Shui Consultation

We analyze your home layout using the 三吉重叠 method, which combines multiple methodologies. The analysis also takes into account the external environment, the Bazi Chart of the occupant, and yearly flying stars to provide a highly accurate and personalized reading of an apartment’s Feng Shui. We identify problem sectors, recommend cures, and help you activate sectors that support your career path.

Every consultation will begin with us obtaining key details of the clients. This will be followed by an on-site visit, which allows us to observe the environment. In the era of digitalization, we may be perceived as a “dinosaur.” However, on-site visits, though time-consuming, are still the best way to understand an environment and allow us the opportunity to communicate with each client. Each consultation is tailored to you specifically, and we strongly believe that having a fully personalized report is the best way to ensure future reference, accountability, and effective communication for both parties. The report will document findings, analysis, and recommendations.

An e-consultation will be scheduled to address key questions following receipt of the report. Subsequently, upon confirmation that the recommendations are in place, we will be on-site to review and activate each sector, thus completing the consultation process. Nevertheless, some clients may require renovation or moving on auspicious dates, and we are pleased to assist.

Commercial / Workplace Feng Shui Consultation

For Feng Shui on your commercial premises, while a similar approach and methodology of 三吉重叠 is applied, there is a substantial change in objectives. The process is similar, but certain segments of the analysis can only be found exclusively in commercial Feng Shui Consultations. The positions of key appointment holders, the nature of the business, and the roles of core departments are some such instances. Depending on the type of business premises, we will thoroughly assess your office, retail outlet, manufacturing facility, or warehouse space.

For employees who hope to tap into workplace Feng Shui by incorporating these principles into their office desks. While full-scale Feng Shui may be difficult (unless you have a room to your own or have the autonomy for positioning), work desk Feng Shui is the next best alternative for you to improve your career luck.
